Day 4: Paso Robles to Santa Maria
Chris from RideWithChris.org had this to say: "I didn't start today grumpy, really. I slept reasonably well, I had a good breakfast, and I was in line for the 6:30 ride-out. My legs were somewhat tired and worn out from riding too hard this week, although they weren't hopelessly gone. But within the first 7 miles, I had settled into a deep funk."
The "Funk" is different for each rider and this the day that where a bit of encouragement goes a long way. In my case, I try to give each of our kids a call or an email in the early hours just to let them know that we're rooting for them.
The top of the "Evil Twins" marks the halfway mark for the riders and is followed by a nine mile descent to the coast that today with it's clear skys and occassional cross winds to keep things interesting made it an exhilarading ride for many of them.
