This Is Going to Be Weird Week...

By Daddy

Las Vegas — The wound nurse didn't show up on Friday because of car problems so she's going to make an appearance on Sunday. The wound clinic is going to be closed on Monday so we're moving to Tuesday. Since we're doing the wound clinic on Tuesday the wound nurse gets moved to Thursday and Saturday. However, no Angiogram on Thursday so it all works out. BTW: All the patients Angiograms got canceled on Thursday, which should be an interesting tale. The hospital schedulers on both sides are not amused.

I just finished Day 48 of the SwiftUI. For those that are wondering why keep bringing this up; one of the rules is: "Every day you post about your progress to the social media site of your choosing. Tell people!" Since I'm not on instagram or facebook, this the closest I can come to meeting the rule.

Day 48 brought back a lot of memories as it was how to draw things in SwiftUI. My first job was creating Fire maps. We had a card punch operator that would created cards with information about each landmark that needed to be on the map. I was responsible for writing the Fortran program to convert the map data. Both decks of cards would be submitted to a Univac 1108. If the program didn't having any syntax errors, I'd get back a magnetic tape a day later. That tape would go to a Calcomp plotter and It'd get back a D Sized drawing (22" x 34"). The only reference material was in several 8 1/2 x 11" binders and the only training was by experimenting.

Fast forward forty-five years. What used to take a computer in a large dedicated room with a cost in the neighborhood of a million dollars, now sits on my desk at about 7.7" square since it's a 2012 model it runs about $300 used. It's faster, has more processors, with a lot more memory, and much more disk space. The reference manuals and the training are now all online. Testing a program happens in seconds instead of days. Much the same things as what I did in the 70s; just a few bells and whistles added in. That perhaps explains how I'm tearing through the course that or I'm having more fun than kitten with ball of yarn!

The Flirt4free commission arrived and I'm Watching every penny and barely scraping by, but should be able to make it through the end of the month. To all those that have donated, Thank you! Any help is appreciated. Here's a link to the How to Donate Page which has been updated with the new address.
